DISTRICT NEWS.

PUKEKAWA. On Friday last a very enjoyable evening was held in the Pukekawa Hall to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs A. Cj Booth, Mrs Booth, senr., and Mr N. D. Booth, who are leaving the district. Dancing was the main feature of the evening, the music being suppplied by Misses Elw’.n and N. McDougall and Messrs J. Lowe and H. Hawke. The ladies provided a dainty supper after which Mr Hawke spo,ke a few words of farewell to the guests. Messrs A. and N. Booth suitably responded. The function terminated with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” ONEWHERO. PRESENTATOIN TO MR J. LIDDLE. His Lordship Bishop Liston, of Auckland, after the consecration of the new portion of hte Onewhero Catholic Church on Sunday, presented Mr Liddle with a handsome silver inkstand, on behalf of the Catholics of Onewhero. in appreciation of the manner in which he had carried out the alterations to the Church. The Bishop, in a most happy little speech, highly commended his workmanship and hoped that the ink stand would always be kept filled, and that M r Liddle would be able to write many cheques for large amounts, which would always be honoured. Mr Liddle. in replying, mentioned that he had really never been so taken by surprise in his life, and it would always be a great pleasure to him to fee! that the Catholics of Onewhero were really satisfied and pleased with the work he had done for them.
