A committee meeting' of the Waiuku Returned Soldiers’ Association was held in the Waiuku Club Rooms on Friday evening, Major M. Aldred presiding. A letter was .received from Mr F. W. Milier protesting at the action of the Waiuku Town Board in passing over his tender for carting, seeing that his tedern for carting lowest. The Association decided to send a strong protest to the Town Board, pointing out that not only was Mr Miller the lowest tendeier, but was also a returned soldiqr. and depended solely on the carting, etc., for his livelihood, whereas the successful tenderer was not a returned soldier, and carting, etc., was more of a side lilne with The Association also suggests to the Town Board that in future preference be given to returned soldiers when possible. Actions like these make one think whether the people have forgotten there was a war and what the men sacrificed. It was decided to hold a great soldiers’ gathering in (the form of a picnic early in March. A sub-com-mittee consisting of Major Aldred, G. V. Williams, A|. M. Ohlson and the secretary was set up to make preliminary arrangements and report to next meeting. The membership ladder' for January was received, which showed the Waiuku Association to be 25th on the list out of 60 odd associations in New Zealand. Mr G.
