PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD
ORDINARY BUSINESS MEETING. INCREASE IN WORK. A YEAR’S GROWTH. The first ordinary business meeting of the year 1922 was covered Town Board on Tuesday week last. There were present: Mr Arthur W. Hall (chairman), Mr H. C. Ernest (town cerk), and Messrs J. Bryant, A. U. Timewe.ll and J. Death. During the twelve months that had elapsed Papatoetoe had grown considerably not only in what is regarded as the centre of the township, but also in ,the parts further removed from the station and the business locality. Perhaps the most, notable changes had taken place in the atea between Rangytoto Avenue and Kolman Road—a locality that in the closing months of 1919 was very open, but had now been cut up into building sections which were the sites of splendid residences and a few homely and nee/fc cottages that entitled it fully to be classed among the residential quarters. N«rw Roads Made. | Following on the sub-division of properties .into sections and fai.mle[ts it had become necessary to dedicate and construct new roads, and this had increased the work of the Board and occasionally called for the employment of axiliary labour to carry out repair works. New roads had been constucted off Coronation Road, off Station Road; namely, Mulcock’s Road and Portage Road; and three roads in the Carruth Estate. The traffic on roads previously constructed but foil some time almost unused, had also increased in some cases, and it had been necessary to extend footpaths and construct new ones where the population warranted.
Hiring of Grader. The system under which the grader had been hired was considered uncharging for) parts of a day had been found to be impracticable. To obviate any further difficulty it was decided that a charge be imposed of £1 a day irrespective of the number of hours the grader was worked during the day. Closing of Station Road. It was decided to notify vehicular traffic that Station Road West would be closed during the progress of the of the repair work, and anyone using i£ did so at his own risk. Vehicle Licenses. Regarding vehicle licenses it was thought advisable to make a i eduction if the amounts due were paid within a reasonable time. If not jthe payee would be liable for the full amount, buts the final decision was left in the hands of the Works Committee to deal with. Dog Collar Fees. Dog collar feees were fixed at ,the same charges as last year, namely, working dogs (sheep and cattle dogs) 2s 6d, sporting dogs (including bull dogs) 10s, other dogs ss. The foreman was appointed collector of fees. Penally on Overdue' Rates. After January 26th amounts of rates overdue to the Town Board would he subject to a penalty of 10 per cent. Orphan Home Land. That portion of the Orphan Home property which formed the northern.* most extremity, and necessitated the approach to the railway _ concrete bridge being made by a devious route had been given to the Town Board by (the Trust Board, merely upon the condition that the local body paid the cost of legal transfer. The clerk was instructed to write informing the Orphan Home Trust Board that its action was fully appreciated. Further, he was asked to arrange for the transfer of the property and to communicate with the Boaids en gineer and surveyor. •*" Siatutevy Half Holiday. Regarding the appointment of a statutory closihg day for the combined district of Otahuhu and Papatoetoe, the Otahuhu Borough Council wrote informing the Town Board that January 18th had been appointed as the day for the meeting of deegates to fix the 'day for the ensuing year. Mr Jh Deajth was appointed delegate. Foreman’s Report. wished to build a store room at the back of his block of shops.
