FRANKLIN COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the i‘ i anklin County Council was held on Thursday, when there were present: Crs W. Claud Motion (chairman), T. W. Woods, C. Cuff, B. Charles, G. W. Healcl, J. Dean, H. Wilcox, the clerk (Mr Alan P. Day) and the engineer (Mr J. F. McArthur). Apologies for absence were received from Crs Mellsop and Reid. Manukau Haarbour Wharves. The Auckland Harbour Board wrote with reference to the wharves in Manukau harbour, stating that a report of the Manukau Hiarbour Committee recommending that the Council’s request for the Harbour Boai’d to take over the wharves on the southern side of the harbour had been acceded to and approved. It was pointed out that the charges for the use of these wharves had been fixed at the same rates as are charged for Waiuku and the Sandspit wharves. The arrangement would come into torce as soon as the necessary by-lay was passed.—Received. Orua fßay Beach Road. Mr Trevor Lewis, Orua 'Bay, wrote drawing the Council’s attention tc the state of the road leading from the Orua Bay beach towards Awhitu, and urged it be attended to.—Cr Mellsop had intended to report on the above matter, but owing to his .absence the matter was deferred until his report was receieved. Red Hill Road, Papakura. Mr Janies White drew the attention of the Council to the state the lower end of Red Hill, Papakura, got into in wet weather. He requested it be given some attention before it became impassable.—lt was pointed out the road was in good order in the summer. The clerk is to reply stating that as there were no funds the unmetalled half mile portion could not be metalled. Permission Granted. The Auckland Harbour Board desired to know if the Council had any objection to permission being granted Messrs A,. Yates and Co. to erect an embankment of rubble or reinforced concrete at the narrowest part of Te Hihi inlet, Manukau harbour. The proposal being* to lease from the Harbour Board about 240 acres of the mud flats iat the eastern arm of the inlet.—The Council did not raise any objection, providing the permission of the: property owners abutting thereon was obtained.
Zinzan’s Reserve.
In reply to the Council’s letter the Commissioner of Crown Lands advised that provision was being made in the Washing-up Bill for the repayment of the valuation of buildings on education reserves by instalments as in the case of land for settlement buildings. This would be done in the case of section 17, Puni Parish, late Zinzan’s.—Received.
Mauku School Corenr.
The Auckland Education Board advised that it consented to the Council taking a small area of the f Mauku school ground for i*oad improvement purposes lat the Mauku school corner on the condition that the Council erected the necessary fencing at the school.—lt was decided to reply st'ating the Council would do the fencing.
Eradicating Blackberry.
Mr -H. Burrows, Pukekohe Hill, applied for permission to put fence out on road for purpose of ploughing out blackberry.—Permission granted, subject to the usual conditions being complied with.
Straightening of Awaroa Stream.
The consent of ’ the Council was solicited of a proposed exchange of roads necessitated by a straightening project in connection with the Awaroa stream, which xvaas being carried out by the Otaua Drainage Board.—The Council acquiesced, provided signatures of all ynrties interested were obtained.
Access to Paerata Station.
Mr D. Jamieson, Paerata, requested the Council to make application for a gate and footpath from road on ■west side of Paerata station to north end station platform.—The necessary application for a gate in the centre is to be made.
