MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Manußau County Council met on Tuesday. Present: Crs A. D. Bell (chairman),, S. W. House, F. M. Waters J. W, Davies, F. Grainger, A. E. Hattaway, J. Luke, the clerk (Mr E.. Ashcroft), and the engineer (Mr W. J. Lopdell), The chairman extended a welcome to Cr J. Lukei who had been elected unoppposed as a representative of the Wajroa Riding, the vacancy for which was caused by the resignation of Cr S. Brown.
Cr Luke previously represented the Riding, but was defeated at the last County general election. —Cr Luke thanked the Council for the welcome extended 'to him. He felt that he was back amongst old friends. He had been perusing the balance-sheet, and he found that the financial position was not as satisfactory as he would have liked to have seen it, The Wairoa Puiding had an overdraft of £I4OO, as compared with when he left office,, when it was £BOO, The financial aspect required careful handling. The farmers throughout the country were crying out for economy, and he thought the Council should set an e'am pie by economising as much as possible However, there were important works to be carried out, arid he expected the overdraft would continue to rise. They had to face the position in the Lust interests of nil concerned. He had not the slightest doubt they would come out alright. The State Advances Office advised that £IOOO of the Manurewa High Level Bridge Approach Loan Account had been remitted to the Post Office, to be lodge at the bank to the credit of the Council —Received.
