A BRASS BAND FAKE.

Load John Sanger , related to me the other day some amusing stories of “fake” shows at country fairs in days gone by. One showman, for instance, billed as his principal attraction ,a musical dog, to which there were .large portraits painted on the canvas adorning the front of the show. The people rolled up and paid their threepence in their hundreds^ When they got inside all 'thst they could isee was a large mastiff dog wearing a thick brass collar. AJter waiting for some time in the tent the crowd! got impatient, and yelled to the showman to start the performance. “Start it,” he replied, “Why, there ain’t no starting ito be done.” “But why don’t you start the deg ?’ they cried. “We paid to see a musical dSog.” “So you have seen one,” he retorted. “Can’t you see the brass band round his neck ?”
