Start 1 p.m. 857 Public Notices. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE TUAKAU TOWN DISTRICT. Ladies and Gentlemen, — I feel it my duty to let you know the reason why my seat on the Town Board has been declared vacant. A short time ago iit became of importance to the town to secure a further supply of metal for the road works then in progress, and an arrangement was made with Mr Burgess for the Board to take metal from his quarry, and the chairman and myself were appointed) a sub-committee to see Mr Burgess and make the necessary arrangements. This was duly done, the interview taking place in my office, and, in order to effectually bind the bargain, the chairman asked me to draw up an agreement, which I did and;' obtained execution by Mr Burgess, thereby securing to the Board the metal is needed. This was a great benefit to the ratepayers, as Mr, Burgess shortly after vacated his farm, and had it not been for the agreement, ithe Board would have lost its right to take metal from his place. Later on the chairman and" all: members of the Board asked me to receive a payment for my services, and ai the suggestion of the clerk I accordingly made a small charge and rendered an account, which was duly paid. Ijt, now appears that though a Borough Councillor is entitled to make a charge for services of this sort, providing it djoes not exceed a certain amount!, a member of a Town Board is ncft entitled, the privilege being strictly limited (to Boroughs, and in accordance with the requirements of the Audit Department, my sea ( t has therefore been declared vacant. I have again been nominated for the vacant seati, and I trust to be honoured with a renewal of the confidence of the electors. Yours faithfully, 888 GARNET ARROWSMITH.
