PAERATA BALL.

(To ,the Editor).

Sir, —I would crave space in your columns to give publicity to the making of arrangem&nfts for staging jthe return ball at Paerata. About three weeks ago pthe returned 1 soldiers gave a ball or social evening, and to their credit be it said nothing better bar. been seen in Paerata. The arrangements were in the hands of men of ability and were perfect. Every body \yas looking forward to the time when the return would be given, end all eager to help, bu*t before the greenery used for decorating the hall for; the soldiers’'.evening had well faded, Four or five women got their heads' together over the fence, decided the return feiail was due, and that (t|iey were the chosen ones,, made arrangements as to date, place, etc., and Jthen invited a few lady friends to a meeting in , a private house. Why was a public meeting not convened ; a strong committee (including both sexes) formed. All, both old and young, were very keen on this function, and now; the majority stand aghast at the audacity of a few women, whose-action has cut the ground from under the feet of those who are both able and willing to make the return ball a huge success.' I am, A RESIDENT.
