ROOSE’S BUSH.
NO HELP FROM GOVERNMENT. A letter was received by the Pukekohe Chamber of Commerce from the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey) with reference to the question of a grant from the Government ito enable the Pukekohe Borough Council to purchase an area ot land in Pukekohe covered with native bush The Prime Minister states : “I desire to inform you that I have already made representations to <the Hon. the Minister of Lands in regard to ithis' matter,' and I am now advised by him that whilst he is pleased that 'the Council has been enabled to find the funds to purchase the land he regrets very much that fh e heavy and pressing demands upon the financial resources of the-Government a* the present time preclude any subsidy being granted by the Government.” Mr Guthrie adds (that he has been compelled to refuse many applications lately, which in his consideiation, are equally deserving, and as the Scenery Preservation vote is now exhausted, he is sorry he is unable to see his way to make an exception in respect of the area of land with which your Chamber is concerned.
