The Times. Published on Tuesday and Friday Afternoons.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 1921. CIVIC APATHY.

The average Pukekohe business man is a difficult proposition when it comes to interesting him in anything. The Chamber of Commerce is languishing for want of attendance, the Beautifying Society is suffering from lack of enthusiasm, ,and thus two forces capable of helping the town along are badly weakened. We venture to state jfchat if the right enthusiasm was shown and every business man in the town was prepared to do his quota of the work, Pukekohe would achieve the interest of people outside. It is lamentable indeed that a Borough w#h the opportunities before ft that Pukekohe has should be allowed to lag behind simply because its own citizens are tired. The town needs waking up, and its advantages made knowrt to the outside world. New businesses could be attracted here and new residents could' be won, which would help this prosperous town become a city. The present rather high rating could be reduced if .the population were doubled, but that can never be when the present townspeople are content to remain uninterested in their opportunities. We hope that now attention has been drawn to the pressing need for live interest and intelligent assistance in civic affairs that [two bodies named 1 will take on a new lease of life, and that their combined efforts will result in a bigger. Better and brighter Pukekohe.

“We nothing extenuate, nor aught set down in malice.”
