MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Manukau County Council, was held on Tuesday, when there were present: Crs A. D. Bell (chairman),, S. W. House, F. .M Waters, A. E. Hattaway, F. Grainger, J. M. Davies, ithe clerk (Mi* E. Ashcroft), and the engineer (Mr W. J. Lopdell). Ranger’s Report. The Counity ranger, Mr J. P. Biown, reported having impounded 132 head of cattle, and had collected fees amounting to £ll 15s. —Received. Main Roads Bill.) The Manurewa Town Board forwarded a resolution requesting the Manufeau Counjty Council to initiate a conference of local bodies to confer on the main trunk road question, including Otahuhu, Papatoetoe, Manurewa, Papakura, Tuakau, Franklin County and Manukau. —It was decided ,to reply urging the matter be deferred pending the result of the Main Roads Bill. Railway Matters. The District Engineer of New Zealand Railways acknowledged teceipt of the Council’s letter regarding additions of a ladies’ waiting room at Mangere crossing railway station, stating the majtter would be looked into. The matter of access to the Ctahuhu railway station, from the Ecclestone and the Favona side N> of the station would l 'also be looked into. Relative to the majtter of the access to the Otahuhu railway station from Ecclestone and Favona, the Prime Minister and Sir Frederic Lang stated thajt they would do whatever (they could to assist the Council. They would place the matter under the notice of the Minisjter of Railways, Hon. D. H. 'Guthrie, for consideration.—Received. Sanitary Dump. The Papatoetoe Town Board' wrote stating that they had an opportunity of acquiring a few acres of land, the back portion of Lot 10, Manurewa Parish and fronting the Great South Road, as a sanitary dump. The portion proposed to be used had a gully running into the Tamaki river foi a back boundary, was otherwise a waste piece of land and no dwelling was nearer than a ouarter of a mile on the Papatoetoe side, with open countcry on the M&ng6r6-o».riliunu side. The entrance on £he Great South Road was about half a mile below the Town district boundary, and permission was desired to so use the land and the road leading therejto, for the purpose of the nightsoil depot—The chairman reported .that he and Cr Waters had inspected the property, and could offer no objection on behalf of the Council. It was reported that the Health Officer had also inspected ,the site, and mentioned that it was an ideal spot. , , The Council granted iche necessary permission, the Town Board uO provide maintenance of the half-chain road leading to the property. Resignation. Mr S. A. Browne, one of the representatives of the Wairoa Riding, tendered his resignation as a membei of the Council.—On the motion of the chairman, the resignation was accepted wijth regret, and the clerk was instructed to take the necessary slteps to have the vacancy filled. Metal to be Crushed. The engineer was instructed to have a quantity of mejtal crushed in readiness to be pu*. on various roads throughout the County. . rj - Gjreat South Road:. eer was instructed to take '.die necessary steps, as early as possible, to have the road scarified, metalled ana rolled. Metal from East) Tamaki. The engineer was instructed to make arrangements to have 2000 'yards of spawls delivered from the East Tamaki quarry, which was formerly in the Road Board's area. Rural fflail Delivery. It was decided to support tlieWoodville County Council in its protest against the imposition of the rural delivery fee. Church Bridge, Papatoetoc. The Public Works Department wrote Stating |that the English Church Bridge Government Grant, £250, had been paid into the Council’s account at the bank. East Tamaki Reserve. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote giving the Council permission to remove metal from ;the proposed quarry reserve on the Eass Tamaki Domain on condition that if anyhitci occurs in having the land set apart as a quarry reserve, royalty to De paid to the Domain Board. Clevedon Memorial Site. The Council’s solicitors advised’that the conveyance of the memorial site at Clevedon had been completed and they would forward the dedication to the Council for acceptance as soon as they received it from the btamp Office. Pay Sheet. Accounts amounting to £3956 14s 6d were passed for payment.
