FAREWELLED AT BUCKLED.

There was - a .very large attendance at 4 the concert and dance hold in the Buekland Hall on Friday night in honour of Mr and Mrs H. Todd, and f;mlly, who are leaving Buokland .to take up their residence at Waihou, near Te Aroha, where Mr Todd has been transferred tto take over the management of the factory there,, : That Mr Todd 1 was a very popular factory manager at Buekland was amply demonstrated, judging by the large attendance. . The seating accommodation was taxed to its utmost, many, being unable to gain admission!' : Mr A. Park Horne, president of the Shorthorn Breeders’ Association, presided, and prior to the commencement of the proceedings explained the object of the fundfcionv After ah excellent concert programme had been rendered, Mr Horne, on behalf of the residents, presented Mr Todd with a pockejt. wallet, containing a large number of notes, and also on behalf of <the suppliers’ committee with a cheque for £25. In so doing Mr Horne said that they had frequently given socials or farewells to residents of Buekland- who were leaving the district. He added that the guest of cthe evening, Mr Herbert Todd, had. been,, for the past 11% years managing the largest commercial export industry they had ir, the district,; First as manager of the creamery, and secondly the manager of the casein factory. like most Britishers he was of an aspiring nature, reaching out to grapple for something ahead. He stated tha|t when the large engine was installed at the factory, Mr Todd studied hard to ■ gain a certificate^to. qualify himself for ithe position, which he successfully did. Mrs Todd, had, during her residence in Buekland, endeavoured to fill her position circumspectly She set a true example of a mother’s responsibility in life. They had a family of which any parents could justly feel proud. He referred (to the good work done by Mr .Todid and his very obliging nature. This won him all friends and no enemies, Indeed he was a highly popular. factory official, and it would be liard to fill his place. The wallet bore the following inscription : “Presented ,to Herbert Todd by the residents of Buekland on !the ere of his departure after 11 years’ residence in this district, as a mark of their esteem, —October 28th, 1921.” Mr A. D. Young, on behalf of the Loyal Pukekohe Lodge, J.0.0.F., M.U., presented Bro. Todd with a Past Grand’s collar. He congratulated him on his . promotion, which he undoubtedly deserved’, He referred to the recipient as an ardent Lodge worker,; having filled the various chairs, and the position of treasurer to the Lodge, with great credit to the Order. He wished him health and prosperity in the future. Mr J. Q, Ward, manager of the Pukekohe factory, eulogised the work done by Mr Todd during his term at Buekland, and complimented him on the work he had .performed. He hoped he would be as successful in his new sphere as he was at Buckland. He referred to Mr Todd as a conscientious, reliable man, whose aim it if was to carry out the work of the Dairy Company to the very best of his ability.. He had served the company faithfully and well, and had been rewarded with promotion to a much higher position. Mr Todd suitably replied, stating that he had always endeavoured to do his duty to the best of his ability. He regretted leaving Buekland, as he had made many loyal friends.. He thanked them heartily for the valuable presents, The following concert programme was rendered Overture, Buekland orchestra, comprising Miss Allan (piano), Miss M. Woods, Messrs J. Kiemey, H. and L>. Middlemiss, C. Deed!* F. Thomas (violins), Book (’cello), and G. (X Littlejohn (cornet); duet, Miss Webb (piano), Mr C. Deed (violin),; songs, Mr A, D. Young, Mr. Jag*, Mr Danes, Mr Hill, and .Miss Joyce Whitehead. . Miss Greenwood gave a recitation. The items were well received. The contributors to the programme were accorded a hearty vote of thanks, as also were .those who assisted' to make thle function such a success.

Supper was dispensed, and the floor was cleared for dancing. The music was supplied by Miss Allan (piano), Mr J. Kigrney (violin), and Mr G- G. Littlejohn (cornet). The function, which was a huge success, was terminated - with the rendering of “Auld Lang Syne’ and the National 1 ‘
