FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14, 1921. REVOLUTIONARY PROPAGANDA.
A well-known Wanganui business man, who recently spent an extended holiday in Australia, returned astounded by the evidences he had seen t and heard! in* ithe cities of the Commonwealth of the growth of revolutionary sentiment and the unblushing license indulged in by the mob orators of the public parks. In his admirable maiden speech in moving the Address-in-Reply, Mr E. Dixon, M.P. for Patea, drew pointed attention to the same thing, vigorously denounced the disloyalists responsible for this disloyal teaching, and ,'in passing, quoted the following from “The Australian National Review” : These would-be revolutionists realise that if success is to reward their efforts they must lay the foundations of their cause among the children who attend the Proletariat Sunday schools, and! that foundation is being laid in a remarkable way. The old church catechism and hymns for children in the old-fashioned Sunday schools have been superseded, and those interested may judge how. well the followers of jtlie “to be industrial Republic have learnt their lessons.” Here, for instance, is a verse from "one of the new hymns that have been set to music for Sunday school! use :
“We nothing * extenuate, nor aught » set down in malice.”
“We, the rebel children, sing Perish every court and king,
We’ve a world 1 to save and win
In the revolution.” The Communist catechism for' use in their Sunday schools is something to think over when coming from those who receive at the instance of the State so many advantages when set beside those enjoyed by the people of most other countries. Here are a few of the questions and answers of the new catechism :
Question: What is God. Answer: God is a word used to designate an imaginary being which people of themselves have devised.
Ques.: Is it true that God has ever been revealed ? Ans : As there is no God he could not reveal himself.
QueS,: Who is Jesus Christ ? Ans : Jesus Christ was the son of a Jewish girl called Mary.
Ques.: Is he the son of God ? There is no God!, (therefore there can be no God's son.
Ques.: Is 5 it true that after Christ’s death the apostles received the Holy Ghost ? Ans.: It is not. The apostles had imbibed too freely of wine, and their dizzy heads imagined all sorts of queer things. ) This extract from the Communist catechism or children gives us in some measure how far liberty has passed in;to license in the MotherState. But it shows also there is something seriously wrong in the who have brought about these monstrous results as they are likely tq affect the future of the Empire. Again, note the following, which is an excerpt from a Communist text book used in one of the schools in the Midlands. Government i's nothing to these national rebels, who in sheer ignorance proclaim a misdirected world because they do not grasp its perplexity and its thousand raniificatiois and demands, The people are governed,” so .the Communist Sunday school pupil is
taught, “by a system of iclolatory. Clergymen, judges and kings are all idols, who have to be given sufficient money to dress better and to live better than other people.” And th would-be despoilers of society denounce the Scout movement in the following manner “Teacher: Can a boy Socialist be a Boy Scout ? “Scholar: No comradle. “Teacher: Why cannot a boy Socialist be a Boy Scout ?
“Scholar: Because a Boy Scout has to salute the Union Jack.
“Teacher: Why not a boy Socialist salute the Union Jack? “Scholar: Because the Union Jack is an emblem of oppression and slavery.” /
Anything more subversive of good Government it would be difficult jtoi suggest. Parents and workers who! realise the value of obedience to-j wards thmselves on the part of jtheir children could not supply a worse medium of training than those Communistic fools who imagine they are going to regenerate the world by a system of dogmatic instruction such as that referred to here. As Mr Dixon indignantly remarked, this soft of teaching makes one’s blood boil, , while at the same time it shows to what an alarming extenjt the extremists will go when they teach doctrines. Their aim is simply the overthrow of government, the destruction of all progress, the disorganisation of society and instituunder such condtions ? Has the Russian Bolshevist experience not yet. sufficed to show that an organic structure like a nation cannot be handled in terms of mass as in the case of wheat and wool and meat ? Intelligence skill and organisation must be the final arbiters in the progress and evolution of society. The senseless twaddle is being put into the heads of Communist children can only train them in discontent without showing them the way to their own improvement as citizens. Will Communism and Bolshevism cause the economic and industrial difficulties to disappear if adopted ? Can (these new schemes stay sickness, diminish sorrow, confer happiness, fill the granaries of the world with food without diligent labour on the part of the workers ? Well may the workers beware of (those who cannot propose education without disobedience, and the obtainment of wealth without the spoilation of others.
