TUAKAU TOWN BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Tuakau Town Board was held on Tuesday last, when there were present: Messrs Dynes Fulton (chairman), G. Arrowsmith, W. J. Taylor, A. Medland, C. Finch, Geo. S. J. B. Sim, and 1 the clerk (Mr A. H. Tapper). Breach of By-laws. It was reported that a person had led a horse along the Geotrge Street footpath, and when requested to take the horse off the path by a member of the Town Board, the offender ignored the request, and was insolent to the Town Board membe*. The latter reported the incident to the clerk, who was instructed to write the offender demanding an apology, otherwise prosecution for a breach of the by-laws would follow. The person had apologised,:; and- those concerned accepted it. The chairman said that whenever a member of the Board took notice of a breach of the by-laws, he should be supported by the Board.— The member’s action was endorsed.
Straying Cattle.
Further complaints were made regarding the number of cattle allowed to wander on the roads, and ijt was resolved to take drastic steps against offenders to effect a cure. One member stated that if his gate was left open for half an hour four or five head of cattle would find their way into his property. —It was reported that one case would be brought unddr the notice of the Stipendiary Magistrate next Court day. The Billiard Room. It was decided to invite the Sanitary Inspector to inspect the building known .as the billiard-room, and report on same at next meeting of the Board. A number of repairs to the structure are necessary. George Street. The question of tarring and sanding George Street Was deferred until next meeting. Hill. The work on Harrisville Hill is to be completed this summer. In connection with this matter Mr Arrowsmith moved, and it was carried, that in view the fact that work on the Harrisville Hill has been delayed owing to negotiations with the Railway Department, and that in the meantime the cost of labour and material is far greater than when the estimates were prepared and the allocations made, the chairman be requested to proceed to Wellington and interview the Prime Minister, as member for Franklin, and the Minister of Public Works, with a view of obtaining a grant or subsidy towards carrying out the "loan allocation for Harrisville Hill.
The chairman was also instructed to attend to various other matters of importance to the Board. Accounts amounting to £B4 16s 7d were passed for payment. The bank overdraft was shown at £Bl7 Is lid: while the loan" account is in credit „to the extent of £2433 N's 9d.
