PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB.
SPORT AT PSJKAKS. ' SOME GOOD RESULTS. SEASON NEARING CLOSE. Some thirty members of the Fakuronga Hunt Club met a't the Mangers Mound on August 20, and a good day’s sport was obtained. Mr Paul Speedy provided lunch for the follower?. It was a beautiful “day, and the fields were beginning to show green again with the 1 approach of spring. About twenty or thirty hounds were oat. It was a sight that would have gladdened the heart cf anyone not a hunting enthusiast, but to those assembled the bright splash of colour cf the huntsmen’s scarlt , coate, the number in green and white, the ladies in their spring costumes, and many motor cars and vehfcles on the road, combined to make *a picture that would lighten the heart of /the most sanguine member.
After partaking of the good things that were, provided by, th heosc and hostess, Mr and Mrs P. Speedy Mr R. D. Neal on behalf of the master said that Mr Webster was making good progress towards, recovery from bis recent illness though not quite well enough to be with thme to enjoy the sport. He thanked Mr Speedy fortho fine sporting spirit which had impelled him not only to give the welcome refreshment but also to throw open his farm to the use of the huntsmen ; and jit his own expense to put saplings up all over his farm and also the surrounding farms. It was this fine sporting spirit that has kept the Pakuranga Hunt duo going for the last forty years, and
Mangere as a whole had been particularly g.ood to the club this year.
Has-e Put Up.
At 12 o’clock a start Avas made in the home paddock. A hare was soon found. It ran right-handed across the road, back again and over into Mr Cox’s farm, and for nearly an hour the huntmen circled round the homestead on this fine farm. A number of spectators were camped in the orchard just in front of the house, and the hounds seemed trained to run around so that nearly the whoie time the hunt could be viewed from the house. Then that good sport (Mr (’ox) came out with one of his youngest landed on his shoulders, and the child had a turn following t the hounds mounted on “shank s pony.
Down at Pukaki. After" another good run down past the public school the hounds were taken on through Mr E. Paul’s, and down to Mr J. White’s, Pukaki, where great preparations had been made. All gates, were locked, but good handy saplings were fastened up on 'every fence. Hounds soon found, but puss circled all round this farm, and t was great to see the followers f.yiing the saplings prepared for them all just the a right heght. Around —all just the right height. Around they went to Mr Paul’s (here -the fences were stifxer and one run stopped suddenly, when a man measured his length on 'the ground), across the road to Mr Kenwood’s, left-handed back nto Mr E. Paul’s, and here puss was lost. The .rest of .t he afternoon was spent hunting in Mr White s pioperty until 3 p.m. Here again a fine hospitable spirit was in evidence, foi Mr J. White and family invited ail and sundry to afternoon tea. Two or three spills occurred, but no cne was hurt.
