FRANKLIN SCHOOL SPORTS.

SHOW GROUNDS. SATURDAY NEXT. * A MONSTER GALA DAYA monster Gala Day, under the auspices of the Franklin Schools’ Sports Association, will be held on tne Franklin A. and P. Society's show grounds on Saturday next, September 24, commencing at about 9 a.m. An outstanding feature will' be the 7-a-side Rugby football tournament, as well as two school repre-f-entative matches. There will be a six-a-side basket balli tournament for girls. This will be a really live holiday for the young people of Franklin, and as the object is- for a worthy cause this gala should receive the worthy support of all. As far as football is concerned, the result of the test matches between South Africa and New Zealand is very indecisive, and the time is opportune for the Rugby Union officials to concentrate on the young men of to-day and make footballers out of them, so that in a few-years this football: loving country "can muster a worthy team to represent her in the field against allcomers and uphold her reputation. This reputation has not yet been lost. We held it against the conquering Springboks by equalising- the honours T.he Franklin Schools’ Sports Association is on the right track by encouraging football among the scholars. This is where 'the boys learn the preliminaries of the game, to be topped off when they join up with a large club. Rugby football has to be encouraged from to-day, and it behoves the public of Frankiin to make this initial gala a success, so that it can be made an annual affair on a much larger scale. The effort is only in its infancy, and Saturday’s success or otherwise depends on the future of the aay out.” One and all should roll up and accord this event the support it deserves. Afternoon, tea will be provided on the ground.
