DISTRICT NEWS.
BCCKLAPID. A most successful social was held :n the Buckland Hall on Friday evening, August 24, when the Buckland Orchestra gave their first concert, assisted by Pukekohe and other talentMr. Geo*. McPherson presided. Songs were given by Mr and Mrs Pop'e (Bombay, Miss R. Allan, Messrs Wooderson, Richings, Danes and Young- (Pukekohe), recitation by Miss Murray, counet solo by Mr Edwards, flute solo Mr E. Pook, interspersed with selections by the orchestra. The accompaniments were played by Miss Allan and Mr Canned. After supper, the floor was cleared for dancing, the music being- suppied by members of the orchestra. During the evening Mr Pook, in a neat speech, thanked all who had contributed to the entertainment, and on behalf of the local their indebtedness -to the Pukekohe players. A daffodil social was given last week by a committee, with Miss Calvert as secretary. The hall was daintily decorated with nikaus and clusters of mauve and daffodil yellow flowers and everyone wore a bunch of daffodils. Mr Innes Wilcox made an efficient M.C., and supper was provided -by the ladies. * The annual meeting of the Buckland Tennis Club was held on Monday, Sept. 5. There was a good attendance of members, and arrangements were made for getting the courts in order for the coming season. Mr L. Bilkey was unanimously re-elected president, Mr W. J. JeffeTis treasurer, and Mr Percy Neal was elected £S secretary. ' j
