A PLEA FOR SOUND LIQUOR.
We are glad to learn that the Licensing Committee of the Rangitikgi district is moving in the direction of having a strict inspection of the liquors sold in public houses made, such a course being, in its opinion, rendered necessary from the deplorable x’esults arising from the actions of persons under the influence of intoxicating drinks. The Minister in charge is to be asked to take action in the matter. About two years ago we wrote somewhat strongly on the subject and the article attracted a good deal of attention in this and other districts. As an immediate result the Franklin Licensing Committee desired the Health Department to make a careful periodical inspection of liquors sold, but we do not imagine that this has been systematically carried ou. If the local Licensing Committee were to join forces with that of Rangitikei and also approach the Minister, something might be done to minimise, the undoubted evils caused by tht sale of immature and adulterated liquors.
