PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB.

OVER STOWE WALLS AND WIRE FENCES.

SPORT AT IMUMATA

MEET AT MR ELLIOTT'S.

Some thirty or forty followers of 'the hounds met at Ihumata on Tuesday, August 15, by kind invitation of Messrs fiv and H, Elliott. Mr R. D. Neal, deputy-master of the Pakuranga Jlunt Club, was in charge, and with him were Mr W. Metcalf, the huntsman, on Captain, and Mr Chapman, whip, on Roporahi. It was a fine day and good sport was enjoyed. Hounds were thrown off on the Elliott farm, which was fenced with stiff stone walls. A hare was soon found, and away she went over the vails and around the mountain. Three or four more were put up, but soon a fine strong hare was singled out by the pack, and it led them a merry dance across the fields to a blind lane ; thence into Mr Fred. Jones’ and away across country and down the road to Mr W. Paul’s ; out again across the fields it went‘and away for miles and miles, leaving the stone wall country and passing through farms where hedges and wire fences' were very much in evidence. The field soon thinned out, and for about an hour Huntsman Metcalf, on Captain, Mr C. Lamb, on Viking, and a boy on a cob pony, had the main pack of the hounds to themselves, while the majority of the followers were miles away. In fact, they wondered where the huntsman and the hounds had got to. This trial proved more than ever that the hounds this season can run so fast and maintain their running so long that R only a horse in first-class condition, .and a good jumper has any chance with them. The run started at Elliott’s mountain, Ihumata, and finished up at Mr Paul’s, near Pukaki.

Prominent Sports.

Hounds were then taken back to Mr Elliott’s farm, where hares were plentiful, and there they kept on running till 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Then they were called off, and at the close of the day’s sport Mr Elliott, in his usual courteous manner, invited Mr R. D. Neal, field master, and the others to his home. After a pleasant talk about hunting the gathering broke up and all were well pleased with the good day’s hunting anti especially pleased to meet.a good sport like Mr Elliott, who, it is recalled, has welcomed the members of the Pakuranga Hunt Club to his farm for over twenty years. The following were some of the farms over which the hounds ran during the day Mr Elliott’s, Mr J. Jones’, Mr Len. Jones’, Mr W. Paul’s, Mr Morton’s, Mr Rennie’s, Mr House’s, Mr H.
