DOCTOR FOR MERCER AND POKENO.

PUKEKOHE MEDICO APPOINTED. At Thursday’s meeting of the Franklin County Council the Auckland Hospital Board advised that ararrangements had been made for Dr. M. P. Mac Sweeney, of Pukekohe, to pay regular visits to the Pokeno and Mercer districts twice a week, and treating gratuitously any indigent cases, which he may be called on to attend. In consideration of this he would be paid a subsidy.—The letter was received. Cr. Dean mentioned that some of tht residents were not satisfied with the appointment. They claimed that other doctors resident in Pukekohe should have had a chance. They also maintained that if a doctor was subsidised he should reside either at Pokeno or Mercer.' It was just as easy for the residents to ring Dr. Wake or Dr Campbell Smith as Dr. Mac Sweeney.

It was pointed out that Dr. MacSweeney would treat gratuitously any indigent cases.
