FRANKLIN COUNTY COUNCIL.

KOMTHLY ftIEETSN’-G. The ordinary monthly meeting oi the Franklin County Council was held on Thursday when there were present Crs. H. Wilccx, T. W. Woods, B. Charles, E. C. Cult, R. T. Rei4, J. Dean, G. W. Heald, H. O. Mellsop, J. R. Lowry, the clerk (Mr Alan P. Day) 'and the engineer (Mr J.' J. McArthur). An apology for absence was received from the chairman (Mr W. Claude Motion), and in his absence Cr. H. Wilcox (deputy chairman)preaided. Closing Hoad at Mangaiangh The Public Works Department forwarded copy of a proclamation takign land for a road and closing a road througs Block 3, Whaukawa survey district, Franklin County, in terms of the Land Act, 1908. —Received. Counties’ Conference. The New Zealand Counties’ Association advised that the next Counties’ Conference • would be held on September 3, at Wellington.-—On the motion of" Crs. Mellsop and Wilcox, the chairman (Cr. W. Claud Motion) was appointed the Council’s delegate to attend the conference. Rate of Interest. A circular letter was received from the Ashburton County Council soliciting the Council’s co-operation in urging; upon the Government the desirability of bringing- down the rate of interest in the country. It was pointed out that the high rate now charged was bound to cause stagnation and depression instead of progres and prosperity. The fall in the price of products was so alarming that with the high rate of interest cud burdensome ‘ taxation it was impossible for the producer to carry on. —The letter was received. A Kohekohs Request. A petition signed by Mr F. A. ITarcovnbe and eight other ratepayers on the lop West Coast Road within the Kchekohe subdivision, requested the Council to effect improvements to the road before the milking season was in full swing.-—Left to engineer and C-A Mellsop to attend to . A Wasp?pi Road, -Mr M. Neagh and eleven others urged upon the Council to the road leading from Keogh Bros, to the main read. At present it was unfit for traffic, and needed repairing so that cream could be carted out.— Left to engineer and Cr. Mellsop to attend to.

Lever, Kohekohe, applied for permission to cross roads at Kohekohe with proposed telephone line. — Left to member of riding and engineer to attend to. Portsmouth Road, Bombay. Mr A. J. Chamberlain and S-i others requested that the above road be attended to as it was in a bad state,Referred to Cr. Lav/ry and engineer. Old Tram Jload.. Mr Tiros. Day com plained of the condition of the Old Tram Road, Opr.-' hcko.—-Engineer and Cr. Lowry to inspect and report on at next meeting. Slack’s Road, Papakurc. Representations wove made by Mr C. Cooper and Air J. G. Huciaovr, for a client, G. \V. Hutchinson and five others to have the work on black’s Road. urged the completion of metalling of the Council’s portion of Hamilton Road, Buck I and J.o Pukekohe— It was reported that the Council was .making every effort to get the metal to compete the work and when it arrived would be glad to avail itself of the settlers’ offer to assist with the loading and spreading.—lt was reported that the work had been completed.’ Wafer Reserve, Pukekohe West. \ The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote relative to a small reserve known as water reserve, Pukekohe West Riding, and advised taht the name was not vested in the county.— Received. At effort is to be made to have it vested in the Council as a reserve. Complaint About Culvert, Mr C. Thomas, Glenbrook, wrote clawing the Council’s attention to the state of the culvert between Bar-’ nett’s and his place at Glenbrook. — Referred to the engineer and Cr. Reid to attend to. Razoa back to Buokland Road. Mr A. T. Tew, Bombay, -drew the Council’s attention to the state of the Rr.zorback to Buckland Road at the Razorbaek end and asked that it be cleared of blackberries and gorse.— Notice to be given to property owners. to clear their frontages of noxious weeds.
