The returned soldiers’ ball will take place on Wednesday, September V.

The annual ball, under the auspices of the Pukekohe Football Club, will be held on August 17. " - At a meeting of the Pukekohe Ivar' Memorial Committee, it was decided to place on the memorial the names of the men who fell in action tohgejter with the rank each held.

Readers should note that the fat pig sale advertised by the Franklin Farmers’ Auctioneering Company for August .18 will commence at 11 o'clock and not 11.30 as previously advertised.

The personnel of the War Memorial Committee is: The Mayor and Borough Councillors, Messrs C. K. Lawric, R. F. Webster, C. Cooper, C. Bonner, V. S. Roberts, H. Dell, F. Perkins, G. T. Witt, J. H. Heyworth, and J. F. Deane (secretary)

The contract for the erection of the war memorial has been let to Messrs W. Parkinson and Co. The foundations have been constructed, while the memorial itself is practically ready for erection. Within a short time the structure will be completed.

Still another business enterprise for Pukekohe. Now Brassey md Co., the well-known cash grocers have opened an auction room in Edinburgh Street next Fire Brigade station. This will be opened at 1 p.m, on/' Friday next and to-day an advertisement appears with lots of offerings for the opening sale. Be sure and be at the opening.

The severe westerly gales of last week did considerable damage at Papatcetoe and ,besides wrecking gardens and tender growing plants that were all exposed, the winds completely unroofed a residence that was only recently built. Another building- in course of erection was also considerably battered. Residents of Papatoetoe have occasionally experienced severe gales from the-west, but that of last week equalled anything within the memory of residents who have settled in the district during the last few years.

At the Drill ox A Company, Puke----*'' kohe Infantry, held in the Horse Bazaar on Monday evening last, Ralph Wright was presented with the Lady .Godley Cup, which is given for the best shot in musketry course for the year for senior cadets. Ralph. Wright made a score of 97 on the Penrose Rifle Range, which made him top score during his last term with the cadets. It is to be hoped that later some trophy will be provided by the Borough of Pukekohe for annual shooting competition for the Pukekehe territorials, who have had so far very little encouragement.
