CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITIONS.
LADIES’ MATCHES.
In connection with the junior championship of the Auckland Golf Club the first round of match play was decided last Saturday at the Middlemore links, Mangere. Results were: S. C. Hodges beat T. F. Ewen 2 up and 1 to play, B. S. Finn beat H. S. Whiitcombe 3 up and 2 to play, H. T. Merritt beat C. I. Nathan 2 up and 1 to play; G. C. W. Morris betat H. Henderson at the 19th, C. W. Gillies beat H. W. Simmonds 6 up and 4 to play, J. Hellaby beat Dr. Y. H. Rnrkes 8 up and 6 to play. The captain’s prize tourney was also advanced another stage, W. B. Colbeck beating Dip F. Macky 2up. This leaves W. B. Colbeck and E, O. Hales to play in the final.. Pi ay in connection with the championship tournament of the Auckland Ladies’ Golf Club resulted: —
Senior Championship.—Frisit tound: Mrs Buttle beat Mrs Hughes 4 up and 3 to play, Miss M. Mac furl ane beat Mrs Murphy 4 and 3, Miss N. MacCormick beat Miss S. Payton, 6 and 5.
Junior Championship—Miss Lever beat Miss' D. Morton 2 up and 1 to play, Miss A. Graham beat -Miss F. Rathbone, 7 and 6, Mrs Armstrong beat Miss M. Geddes 2 and 1\ Miss F. Wake beat Miss D. Foster 7 and 5, Miss M. Hellaby bealt iss B. Wilson 8 and 7 Mrs Brown, beat Miss J, Reid 5 and 4.
First Medal Handicap—Seniors : Mrs Marshall 93 gross, 15 handicap—--7S net; Mrs Murphy, 99, 18—81; Miss N. MacCormick, 94, 9 —85; Miss M. Fay ton, 90, 2—88; Mrs Hughes, 104, 16 88. Juniors: Miss K. Clark 105, 21 84; Miss D. Morton, 111, 23 —88; Mrs Brown, 111, 21—90., C grade: Miss B. Wilson, 115,'36 —79. AT IViIDBLEIWORE LSNRS. The Auckland Ladies’ Golf Club played a four-ball best-ball bogey at the Middlemore links, Mangere, on Thursday, July 23. The playing conditions were far=. from pleasant and rain fell during most of the afternoon. The match resulted as follows: Mrs Marshall and Miss M. Macfarlane 5 up, Misses M. Payton and N. MacCormick 2 down, Mrs Hughes and Miss K. Holmes 2 down, Misses- M. Hellaby and P. Bloomfield 2 clown, Misses S. Payton and M. Alison 4 down, Mrs Corbett and Miss F. Rathbone 4 down. Ties in the bogey competition were played off, resulting as follows: — Seniors, Miss M. Alison; C grade, Miss E. Foster.
