Report and Balance-sheet.
The president’s report and- the balance-sheet .were read and adopted on the motion of the president, seconded by Mr S. Clews. The president’s. report is as follows : ' £ ‘fn submitting to you the second annual report and balance-sheet of the chub for the year finding 31 July, 192], allow me to take this opportunity of thanking all those who came forward and assisted the club Oy doing voluntary work both before and during the race meeting, and to those who so generously gave donations towards the stakes, and. to com gratu'ate the members on the successful season just ended. On April 9th the club held its first race meeting, offering in stakes the sum jf £365. £167 of this was collected in nominations and acceptance fees, and £177 from gates, motor cars, vehicles, booths, race cards and fines, leaving a debit balance on the meeting, after deducting the Government tax, £lO 14s, of £3l 14s, which I consider very satisfactory, considering the exceptionally wet day experienced for the meeting. 1 desire to take this opportunity of tendering to Messrs Harry Massey, Robert. Wynward, J. Williamson, Harry Hayes, and several other gentlemen, the club’s best thanks and appreciation in coming voluntarily and assisting the club £0 carry out the race meeting, their assistance and knowledge of racing materially helping the. club to carry out the meeting without any undue hitch or unpleasantness You will notice that £344 11s has been received for subscriptions, I regret to say £ll4 is still outstanding in unpaid subscriptions, which is of very grave consequence to the welfare of the club, as practically the club’s only source of revenue for
some little time will be in members’
subscriptions.- I particularly wish to out to members the desirability of paying their subscriptions prc-mpt-3v, so as to allow the club to meet -flp obligations, and continue in a
sound and financial position. , The Farming Account shows a debit balance in the National Bank of 'New Zealand of £490 Os 3d, but -against that the club has an asset in stock to the value of £415. The Farming Account has also paid the whole of the interest on the mortgage to Mr Hamilton, and assisted the Racing Club’s account to the extent of £74. - „ llwish also, while dealing with the Farming Account, to thank all those members and ethers who donated heifers to the cluh during the ’past year. I sincerely trust that tire same spirit will prevail during the coming year, and that a like number of heifers will be forthcoming. The race course property, consisting of S 6 acres, is valued at £8192 17s Gob the amount paid for same by the civil) last year. The' improvements . shown at £4OO, consists of new grass, top-dressing, clearing blackberries, fencing, drainage, etc., which I consider is a low estimate, as the general all-round appearance of the property has been greatly improved. You will have noticed by the papers the report of the Racing Commission set up by Parliament to go into the whole matter regarding the allocation of permits , it must be very •’•ratifying to you all that toe Frankp t/ Racing Club has been recommended a two days’ meeting, providing a suitable course and properly constructed appointments are provided ; it, now rests entirely with the club if Parliament adopts the 'L/omniissien’s finding, to losa no time in making financial arrangements and get the course and appointments under w r ay. In conclusion, I wish to thank all the members of the committee for the zealous and whole-hearted manm. i n which the work of the club VSh been carried out during the past year. With a continuation of - the ,r c-ime unselfish apd sporting spirit I have no hesitation in saying the Franklin' Racing Club will soon become second to none among country clubs in the Auckland province. j wish the club every success and prosperity.” The president urged upon all members the desirability of paying their subscriptions in order to assist the finances of the club. Referring to -the Racing Commissions report, Mi Motion said that provided Parliament adopted,it, the club would have to Pet to work and propound a scheme vo that the necessary appointments ftoukl be made. It was a matter foi the whole club to take an interest in, and carry out their obligations to satisfaction of the Mimstei o * ' 1
