card, considering the condition of some of the putting greens. The golf course requires a good deal of attention to get into order for the Franklin golf championship, which takes place next month. '' ‘ j PAPAKUIRA GOLF CLUB. r A meeting of the Golf Chib Committee was held last week to arrange details of matches and other matters of interest, Mr W. Crawford resigned the position of captain and green superintendent, and Mr J. Eh Elliott was appointed to the former position and Mr W. Clark to the latter. It was decided to commence the competitions on the 9th inst, and continue them on vacant Saturdays. As the present course was rather short, it „ was decided to remove the present No, 4 green to a new position, 300 Q yards further to the east, thus giving two long holes, and to increase the bogey for the course to fors- I four. The late Mr D. W- Jones Had offered a trophy for competition; and it was decided to make it a challenge trophy, and to leave arrangements for play in the hands of the Match Committee. The captain offered the usual trophy for two medal rounds (handicap), and it was decided to begin the matches for this on 9th Huly and finish on the 16th. The secretary was asked to invite the W.aiuku Club to send a team of fourteen players on the 23rd inst.
