FRANKLIN V. HAMILTON. VISITING TEAMS DEFEATED. SENIORS BY 14 POINTS TO 6. JUNIORS BY 25 POINTS TO 3. On Saturday two teams, senior and junior representatives, of Franklin, journeyed to Hamilton to try conclusions with tthe Hamilton senior and junior representatives. The teams were hospitably entertained by the Hamilton Union . THE SENIOR GAME. HAMILTON 14 V. FRANKLIN 6. - Franklin won the toss and the home team set the oval in motion against the sun. The yellows pressed and Gilmour marked in a good position and kicked a goal Hamilton .. .. .. 3 Franklin .. .. . . 0 The reds (Franklin) set up a vigorous attack and took the oval to Hamilton’s 25, where an infringement took place and Markham taking the kick near the side line evened the scores with a beauty Hamilton .. .. ... 3 Franklin .. .. .. 3 The visitors commenced a passing rush and we,re almost over but a knock on at the critical moment spoiled a good chance Hamilton retaliated and drove the invaders back to half way The Franklin forwards, were getting all over the Hamilton vanguard, and were keeping the home team hard pressed The game was very fast, and both sides safe on defence The fii-st quarter ended without addition to the score. 1 Franklin Leads. Marks and O’Sullivan set off down the paddock and were unlucky in not getting Over. Matthews saved but the yellows came again. Franklin was penalised twice for infringements, Bailey missing the uprights on each occasion by the narrowest of margins. Franklin forwards put some dash in their play and transferred the scene of operations to the western goal Here they kept Hamilton for several minutes, and a score seemed certain hut Hunt rose to the occasion and cleared, finding the line just inside the 25 flag. From the throw-jin the red hacks got going hut A. Wray knocked on and a scrum was ordered. The maroons still pressed but the half time bell was sounded with the score: Franklin . . .. . . 6 Hamilton . . . . . . 3 Up to this stage the visitors had all the better of the game, especially in the forward division. They hooked the ball splendidly on almost every occasion, but combination among the backs was badly wanted. "Condition Tells. Upon resuming Franklin appeared to be the favourite among the crowd as far as a win was concerned, but the supporters of the visitors were pessimistic about their condition and they were correct. Then condition told sadly in the concluding half. Soon after resuming Warren secured, passed to Gibbons, who in turn passed to Marcroft. The latter cut in and beating Wray and C. jDromgool, went straight and fast and scored one of the prettiest tries ever seen, under the posts. Gilmour added the major points. Hamilton pressed hard and had Franklin defending, but R. Smeed saved by c’everly clearing and J. Dromgool following up took play to Hamilton’s 25, where a mark saved and the home team cleared. Syzemoore was seen to advantage in a solo effort bv taking id ay to Hamilton’s 25. Soon after he made another brilliant save and found the fine in Hamilton’s 25. At this stage Shaw (Hamilton) received a severe injury and retired. Even play followed. subsequently Hamilton finding the line, in Franklin's 25. From a scrum the ball was thrown to Christie, who got over. The kick failed. Hamilton . . .. .. 11 Franklin ' .. . . 6' The third quarter ended with the

score as stated above.. Shortly after the kick-off the Hamilton backs got going and the wing threequarter streaked over. The kick failed. Hamilton .. . . ;. 14 Franklin .. .. .. 6 Franklin pressed and took the oval to Hamilton’s 25 but the home team cleared. Franklin were awarded a free but Syzemore’s kick missed. Franklin was awarded another Tree soon after but Syzemore’s kick again missed. Franklin continued to keep the home team busy but the yellowß cleared and took play to Franklin’s 25 where Matthews was seen to advantage in defensive play. The home team now took the upper hand and the issue was never in doubt. The home team changed their tactics in the second half making the game open. It was the nippy and speedy backs combination that won the game. For the winners, Marks, O’Sullivan and Marcroft (backs) and Christie and Gilmour (forwards) played sterling games. The whole of the Franklin team played well, especially Matthews, Dromgool Bros, and Crum. THE JUNIOR GAME. HAMILTON 25 V. FRANKLIN 3. A The junior match was won by Hamilton, a very strong team, by 25 points to 3. The visiting team proved very disappointing. C. H. Marcroft kicked a goal from a mark for the losers. The team should do better next time out, it being their first game together. THIRD GRADE. 1 i HIGH SCHOOL 11 V PAPAKURA 8. On Saturday last Pukekohe High School defeated Papakura by II points to 8. For the victors Malcolmson and Crosbie scored tries, one of which was converted by the former. Patterson kicked a splendid goal from a mark. Smith and Smart got across for Papakura, Kitchen converting one. Mr Rowe proved -a capable and impartial referee. SOUTH V TUAKAU, On Saturday the Pukekohe South team w T ent to Tuakau to play the Tuakau schoolboys’ team whicn was considerably supplemented by the addition of about four juniors and others. The match ended in a draw, no score being registered. Mr M. Cruickshank, jun., made an impartial referee.
