RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION.
’ FORMATION AT MANGERE. » , TWO RESOLUTIONS CARRIED. v r - There was a good attendance of ratepayers at a meeting held in the Mangere Public Hall on Monday night, June 27, for the purpose of forming a ratepayers’ association. Mr Jas # Montgomerie presided. A letter received from Mr J.. E. Taylor was read approving the proposal of the j meeting. Considerable discussion took place as to the advocacy of the proposal and advantages that would accrue to the proposed -line of action, and as the outcome of it all the following officers were elected: — President, Mr Jas. Montgomerie; vice-president, Mr W. Mcßae Peacock ; committee, Messrs G. W. Cox, M. B, Kirkbride, W. Massey, J. Wallace, H. Bull and T. S. Cowan; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. M. Gumming. After considerable discussion the following motion, moved by the president, was carried unanimously : “That the Association requests the chairman riding member and engineer of the Manukau County Council to attend the next meeting and give information : (1) As to the cost of the tarred road at the Mangere bridge; (2) In regard to the £30,000 loan, how much of it has been raised, at what rate of interest, and what balance, if any, is unexpended; (3) Why the roads over a great part cf the riding have been allowed to get into such a disgraceful condition; also that the engineer be asked to j give full information regarding the I cost of metal at the different quar- ! ries.” A second motion asking the | County Council that two members should represent- the Mangere riding, [ was also carried, !
