Under the heading of “Art” we hope to encourage the study of pure art, i.e., drawing, painting- and modelling in ali its branches, and under the heading of “The Crafts” we
pope to apply .art to commercial purposes by encouraging such crafts as [silver work, enariiel work, beaten copfper work;, relief carving and modelling, furniture making, inlaid work, book-binding, poker work, parquety, wall paper designing, poster work, any other trade, the success of
rwhich depends upon the artistic temI per ament Mr Munro, principal of the Technical School, has kindly arranged so that the proposed Art Society can work in conjunction with the technical classes, and we are now enrolling Members for the technical classes and prospective members for the Art 1 fcciety classes; I hope to call a general meeting in a week or ten days ito definitely decide how many of the proposed societies shall be started, and particulars, as to date, etc., will be advertised, so that readers will haste plenty of notice. —I am, etc., ; H.
