WATER WANTED AT WAIROA
A PAPAKURA REQUEST. . • . 7. . At last night’s meeting of th® Papakura Town Beard, a petition signed by Mr L. H, Kaels and 27 other members of the Wairoa Road* one of the main thoroughfares tc and from Papakura, made application for an immediate water supply. Their ptoperties all came within the town aea, and it was understood at the time the poll was taken on the proposed water loan, that thoroughfare# would be the first consideration and that all the residents on the Wairoa Road would naturally participate in the main scheme and would not have to wait as was mentioned at the annual meeting of ratepayers for an indefinite period. Further a two-inch pipe would be of little service to the road as the properties on both sides, would, within a short time,, be cut up into residential sites and event**ally the district would be thickly populated. Ifhey suggested that nothing less than a four-inch main be laid down.
Seven residents of the road waited on the Board in uspport of the petition. They pointed out' that if Wairoad Road 'was deleted from the retilcuiation scheme now, they would never get water to their residence# and such would greatly depreciate the value of their properties. „ Further, that if another loan was neqes-' sary to complete the reticulation scheme, the ratepayers who were being supplied with water would riot sanction the extra expenditure. They contended that to instai a two-inch main would be an unwise and strongly advocated that a four-inch main be installed as far as possible.
Members were of the opinion that it would be the better policy to str.l. four-inch pipes. The deputation was promised that their request would be acceded to as far as possible. ' •• •>.
