OPENING OF SEASON.

A good gathering of those interested in "literary and. social advancement assembled at the Tamiki Picture Hall on Tuesday evening on the opening of the 1921 season of the laiu.iki West Literary, Musical and Social Ciub. The guest of the evenin' 1 : was M, de Beauregard, French Consul at Auckland. He made a shorn speech, in which he referred eulogistic-ally to the cordial relations existing between France and Britain. The two countries' had been banded together during 'a titanic struggle and the*y had survived a period of prolonged adversity, which had strengthened the happy relations. The audience fu.!;y appreciated the address, and thanked the Consul accordingly. A varied and interesting programme of vocal and musical items made up a highly pleasing entertainment.
