,Mr M. H., Brittain, who has been Stock Inspector off and on m this district for the past twenty years, retires on the 30th inst. He will be succeeded by Mr A. Huddles tone,. of l-e Kuiti.

Mr and Mrs John Coadv and family, also Miss Orissa McAlpine, arrived beck from a long holiday in Australia py the s.g. Riverina on Monday evening last.. The party reached Pukekohe on Tuesday evening.

Cr S'. W ( . House, member for the Mangere Riding of the Manukau County, left on Tuesday by the express train on a visit to Wellington. prior to the commencement of the ordinary business at Tuesday’s meeting ft the Manukau County Council. Cr Waters referred to the death of Major D. H. Lusk. He pointed out that deceased was one of the old pioneers, anct took a keen interest in all matters pertaining to the welfare of the province and New Zealand. A motion of sympathy with the relatives in their sad bereavement was carried in silence, members standing. Mrs Tapper,’ wife of Mr L. B. Tapper, of Tuakau, who recently sustained a fractured ankle through falling from the” door steps at her residence and who was subsequently removed to the Auckland Hospital, is making rapid progress towards iecovery. It is expected that it will be about a month before the unfortunate lady is able to get about.
