STRAYING CATTLE.
DRASTIC ACTION TO BE TAKEN, During the last week or so correspondence has appeared in the Times relative to straying cattle in the borough. At Monday night’s meeting of the Borough Council Cr. Armstrong asked if any applications had been received for the position of borough ranger and the town clerk replied in the negative. Cr. Armstrong pointed out that the straying cattle nuisance was becoming particularly bad. If they leceivod no applications for the position. of ranger, he thought the Council would have to face the position in seme way. He suggested delegating the position to some borough employee. People were turning cattle out just as they pleased all over the be rough Cr Patterson suggested asking the police to take action against the offenders He contended this ' would have more effect on them than impounding the stock, because if they; were impounded the Council would not be able to feed them. He moved that the police be requested to take action against the offenders. Cr. Armstrong seconded and the motion 'was carried. It was pointed out that any per-< son could impound stock if they wen* proving a nuisance.
