OBITUARY.
MR J, A, RE NALL. V/e regret to record the death of Mr W. A. Renal!, which occurred at his residence. “Pehiakura,” Rohe Kobe, on Wednesday, the 25th May. Mr Renall was a very notable figure and a man of great energy and public spirit. He was formerly Mayer of Masterton, and liis father was a member of the Legislative Council. Mr Renall came to this district some II or 12 years ago and purchosed the estate of . Mr Alexander Muir, which he eat up into several farms for his sons and daughters, end effected considerable improvements thereon. He was, until a year or two ago, an energetic member of the Franklin County Council, but owing to failing health lately has not taken any prominent part in politics. Mr Renall was a staunch Liberal and a friend of the late Rt. Hon. Richard Seddon. Only a little while ago Mr Renal! made the announcement that lie was going to give an endowment of land for educational purposes at Kohe Rohe. He was a man who believed in doing good for the generations to come, and will be much missed by a large circle of friends. Deceased leaves a widow and large family of sons and daughters.
WfK PATRICK GERAGHTY. AN OLD COLONIST. It is with regret that we have to chronicle the death of an old and highly esteemed resident of Tuakau, in the person, of Mr Patrick Geraghty which occurred at his residence, George Street, on Monday last. Up till about six weeks ago deceased was in good health, but illness overtook him and he passed away as stated above. Deceased was a member of the advance guard of troops that journeyed to Tuakau during the Maori war . He took part in the hostilities, at the cessation of which he took up his residence there. He was an old colonist and was one of the pioneers who laid the foundation of the present prosperity of New Zealand. Jr. the early days it was a difficult matter to make ends meet, and it was only through grit and determination combined with hard work that he was able to lay the foundations for a nice home. For the last 56 years Mr Geraghtv has been a resident of Tuakau, during part of the time he was engaged in the farming and flaxmilling pursuits. He war a most successful .farmer. Deceased was 85 years of age and was widely known and highly respected by all with whom he came in contact, and the sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended to the bereaved relations in their sad loss. The funeral took place at Tuakau on Wednesday, and in spite of wet weather ft” was largely attended, signifying the esteem in which deceased was held The burial service was conducted by Rev. Father O’Brien. Flora.! Uibutes were numerous.
