MANUREWA WATER SUPPLY
ANOTHER TEST MADE. It will be remembered that a short time ago a test was made of the stream running through the Totara Park Estate at Manurewa, from which it was proposed to obtain the water supply for the district, to ascertain the volume of water in the stream. At that time shortly after a downpour of rain, the volume was estimated at 200,000 gallons for 24 hours, but these figures were challenged at a public meeting by Mr E. Butter worth, and it was decided to have another test made. On May li)th, after a dry period, the engineer to the Board Mr W. J. Lopdeil), accompanied by Messrs M. D. King, C. 11. Lupton, W. T. Cox, and G. Smith (members of the Town Board), and Mr E. W. Gillies, jun., made another test. The stream was dammed up at a certain point, and it was found that, in spite of leakages, that the volume was 100,000 gallons for a 24hour period, with the dam still rising. The estimated consumption of the residents of Manurewa was 40,000 gallons daily, and assuming these figures to be correct, there appears to be ample water for the population for many years in the future.
