ATTENDING DISTANT SCHOOLS.
REGULATIONS OF THE DEPART IVIENT. f Some discussion took place at a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Auckland Grammar Schools last Wednesday concerning a pupil named Doris W. Naylor, wha attended the girls' school in Howe street and fm that purpose resided with friends in the city. Her parents, it was said, were living in the vicinity of Pukekohe.
When the girl enrolled at the school some time ago Miss Butler thought she was a new entrant and was admissible since she was living in Auckland. She did not state that she was away from home, boarding with her relatives.
The chairman, Professor A. P. W. Thomas, stated that since the girl was living in Auckland no railway past was required. Therefore the Government would not be put to any additional expense on her behalf. The question whether parents shoidd have freedom as to which school they sent teir children to, provided they did not put the Government to anv additional expanse, was for the public to decide.
