TUAKAU TOWN BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Tuakau Town Board was held on Tuesday night, when there were present: Messrs G. Arrowsmith, G. S. Lapwood, J. B. Sim, A. Medland, and the clerk (Mr A. H. Tapper). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Dynes Fulton, C. Finch and W. J. Taylor. Owing to the absence of the chairman, Mr G. Arrowsmith, deputychairman, presided. Tuakau Domain.

In reply to a petition by the board requesting that the administration of the Tuakau Domain be transferred to the Town Board and that the Domain be brought within the Town Board area, the Minister of Lands, Hon. D. H. Guthrie, advised that he had gone very carefully ino the matter but had received such conflicting reports that he deemed it advisable to delay any definite action until such time as the Board had an opportunity of calling a public meeting to deal with the matter. He thought this would be in the best interests of all concerned and he wished, to assure the Board that he would be pleased to gsv.e effect, to any resolution concerning the matter passed at a duly advertised public meeting.—On the motion of the chairman, the matter was deferred until next meeting.

Thanks Acknowledged. The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, acknowledged receipt of the Board's resolution embodying a vote of appreciation and confidence, and also for the expression of good wishes on the occasion of his visit to the Old Country. He returned his warmest thanks for the kind wishes which he appreciated very much. Information Required. In reply to the Board’s letter requesting information upon the subject of electricity to local bodies from the Government’s scheme, the Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Public W orks, said he would have inquiries made and would communicate with the Board later.—Deferred until ifext meeting. Lights Wanted at Trucking Yards. The District Traffic Manager, New Zealand Railways, wrote in reply to the Board’s request to have the trucking yards at .Tuakau lighted, stating that the request would be considered and a reply sent later. —-It was reported that the department had sent a man to Tuakau to inspect the yards, and he was referred to the drovers concerned. It is believed that two lights, one at each end of the yards, would-be erected.—The letter was received. Accounts amounting to £54 14s lid general and £430 5s 5d loan were passed for payment. I THE ESTIMATES. The Finance Committee submitted the estimates for the year ending March 31st, 1922. The expnditurce was estimated at £942 16s 2d, while the receipts were made up as follows : —General rate of in the £ on the capital value of £106,820, £667 12s 6d ; licenses, £2OO ; Government subsidy, £B2 ; weigh-bridge, £3 7s 8d ; total, £953. excess of receipts over expenditure was £lo4s. The report was received. It was decided to levy a general rate of 1 14d in the £ on the capital value ; a special rate of.l-Bthd in the £ for the Pukekohe East Road Board Special Loan ; l-8d in the £, Whangaiata Special Loan ; l-3d in the £, Hospital and Charitable Aid Board levy ; 2d in the £, interest and sinking fund Tuakau Town Board Special Loan, £12,000, The rates are due and payable in one sum on or before October 29th,’ 1921.
