STRAND PICTURES. “ ONE LAW FOR BOTH." Lawrence Kirby, a young law student, is engaged to Marion Walton. They have been indiscreet in their love and when Marion tells Kirby of love and when Marion tells Kirby of her condition he realises that his future will be ruined if he marries -her. ' He tries to persuade Dr. Cartmell to helo him but is indignantly refused. Kirby deserts Marion and a boy is born, the mother dying at his birth, and he is adopted by strangers not knowing who his parents are. Twenty-five years elapse and Kirby becomes a celebrated judge whilst his son is a young medical student and is in love with Janice Hadin, whose parents refuse permission to marry. The father Is a patient at a sanatorium at which Richard Mason (Kirby’s son) is a student. Mr Hadin’s death is a mystery and Richard is accused of his murder. He is tried by his own father, neither being aware of the relationship. Richard is found guilty anad is sentenced to death. A dramatic situation occurs when lerry (a one-time rival for the affections of Marion Walton), who is aware that Kirby is Richard’s father, shouts from the body of the court “And may God have mercy on your soul, Judge Kirby, You have sentenced your own son to death.” THURSDAY NEXT. “SLAVES OF PRIDE.”

In “Slaves of Pride.” lovely Alice Joyce plays the role of a young girl who is placed on the auction block of matrimony by a shallow-minded extravagant mother. Her husband, a young millionaire, is obsessed with ideas of his own importance, and the story trenchantly points out the evil of self pride as well as loveless unions. The star is radiantly beautiful and appealing in all her scenes and her performance stands out clearly throughout the whole picture. The story is powerful and splendidly presented, and anyone who does not find full measure of entertainment in it must be vei'3 r hard to please.
