DEATH OF OLD COLONIST.

The death occurred on Good Friday of Mrs Elizabeth Leech, at her residence, Pukekohe West. She was born in Emdale, Rathfriland, Ireland, and was 82 years of age. The deceased lady enjoyed fairly good health until nine days before her death, when she was seized with hemorrhage of the brain. During her illness she would sometimes answer th we attending her in her same old witty way. The deceased lady came to New Zealand on the sailing ship Louisa and arrived in Auckland on Maich 30, 1565. She was then a single girl and took up domestic duties for three years in the employ of Mr Baver'age, solicitor of Mt. Albert, and Mr Dilworth, of Remuera, his property being well known now as the Dilv/orth Estate. Her maiden name was Elizabeth. Campbell. In the year 1868 she married the late Alexander Jamieson Leech, a rope maker of Auckland, who predeceased her 22 years ago. Shortlv after their marriage they came to Pukekohe ami took up a farm of 51 acres of bush, and they both tame through the hardships of the oiden times. Mi’s Leech’s wish was to remain on this farm that she worked so hard for until God would ca ! l her. She is survived by one- daughter, two step-daughters, and a number of grandchildren.
