FORMATION OF BOROUGH, PRELIMINARIES WELL IN HAND. A fully attended meeting of the Papatoetoe Town Board was held last evning, Mr Arthur W. Hail presiding. The most important business was toe discussion of matters relating tc the proposed new borough. The meeting decided that ratepayers he informed of the project in order that they could attend a meeting- to be held in the local Town Hall on Monday, May 16, to discuss the proposal for the formation of a borough,
II was mentioned that the district, which was at present governed by a Town Board, had grown so rapidly in the last few years that it was now necessary to provide for the progressive development in a manner that was impracticable under the limitations imposed by the existing boundaries. In discussing the subject some months ago the Town Board unanimously agreed that the time was at hand when a borough should be formed, and .with this object in view a sub-committee was appointed to deal with the matter. Any difficulties which might be encountered and the consideration of the new boundaries had received full attention) with the result .that the. preliminary arrangements were now well in hand and what was considered to be a very satisfactory and conviently workable boundary for the future had been arrived at. Now 5 that the time had come for the x
sanction of the ratepayers to be given, the opinion was expressed that it was highly desirable that the proposal should be carried as the growth of the district made it imperative that such problems as an up-to-date drainage scheme, a municipal water supply, electric lighting and other progressive works should be provided for. When the duplication of the railway line was completed—it was now laid as far as Penrose—making possible a much faster service ,this popular suburb would be within a half-hour of the city.
