THE STORM IN THE TEACUP.
MYSTERY SOLVED. COUNCIL MINUTES ALTERED. The storm in the village teacup, which has been rousing practically everyone during the last few days, subsided on Wednesday night at the Borough Council meeting. When the town clerk had finished reading the minutes of the special meeting .of the Council held on Wednesday, April 13, for the purpose of certifying to the correctness or otherwise of the supplementary electors’ ■list. Cr Armstrong said that the minutes read “the question of the validity of the claim of Mr John Routly under a residential qualification was raised by Cr Patterson. ’ This was incorrect as he (the speaker) was first to raise the question and, in fairness to Cr Patterson, he would like the minutes altered to read that the question was raised by Cr Armstrong.
Cr Bilkey: I reckon I moved that the roll be signed and not Cr Hamilton as the minutes state.
Cr Keith: Cr Hamilton moved and Cr McGough seconded.
Cr Bilkey said be spoke on the matter and at the same time moved the motion.
Cr McGough differed with Cr Armstrong and claimed that Cr Patteison v/as first to raise the question by picking up the application form for enrolment remarking, What is this? Cr Patterson: Pardon me. Cr Armstrong brought the mattei up and the Mayor asked the clerk to produce the papers, which was done. You, Cr McGough, asked if there were any others. I read the application form. Three others spoke on the sub feet before I did. Cr. Keith: I think Cr Armstrong is right.
Cr McGough: How was it taken down wrongly? Cr. Patterson: Because a discussion was taking place all the time across the table. Councillors were talking one to another and not addressing the chair.
Eventually the minutes were altered to suit Cr Armstrong, and thus ended the “storm in the teacup. ’
Interested parties are now satisfied and there is no more talk about libel actions.
