THE BIG BAZAAR.
OPENED TO-DAY. The huge bazaar, in the Show ground sheds, in aid of the funds of the local Catholic Church, was opened to day by His Worship the Mayor (Mr C. K. Lawrie), who complimented the energetic committee upon tha successful culmination of their efforts in working up such a magnificent bazaar. Truly, the committee responsible, are to be congratulated upon the play of wares and the decorations of j the buildings. Numerous stalls, loaded with every conceivable article needed in every household, meet the eye in every direction. In addition to all this are numerous side-shows and competitions, including tug-o’-war, pillow fights, hat trimming for men, nail driving for ladies, weight guessing, etc. Oil Friday and Saturday evenings there will be a very special display of fancy dancing by Miss Burmister, of Auckland, and sixteen pupils, including an eight-year-old wonder dancer, in the person of Miss Dossis Barnes, of Auckland. On Saturday afternoon, there will be an athletic gala, including running events, greasy pig, and a monster football match between the Trades and Farmers. A big orchestra will be in atendance throughout the season, and an enjoyable time is assured for all. Special mention should be made of the work done by the two industrious secretaries (Miss M. Clarke and Mr J. Kennelly), who have worked early and late arranging the details. Given fine weather, the bazaar should be an immense success, and should accomplish the worthy object aimed at.
