COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL.

A pleasing little function took place in the Oddfellow’s Hall last Tuesday night, when the staff of the Fanners’ Union Trading Co., held a social evening in honour of the manager, Mr. J. G. Russell, and Miss M. Taylor, on the occasion of their approaching marriage. There were about 50 couples present, and a most enjoyable evening was spent in dancing and musical items. Those who contributed the vocal items were Mrs A. Potter, whose delightful rendering of “Until” was greatly appreciated. As an encore Mrs Potter sang “When You Come Home.” Mr W. T. Jones sang “Wyoming Melody” in delightful strain, and as an encore sang “Golden Gate.” Mr G. Ryan sang “Rose of My Heart” and “An Old Fashioned Town.” Miss Ryan and Mr Rogers gave a very delightful rendering of “Intermezzo” Mr J. O’Malley sang “What Dou Want to Make Those Eyes at Me For?” During the evening Mr Russell was presented by Mr Rowe on behalf of the staff with two valuable Indian carpets. Mr Russell suitably replied, and thanked the staff for their gifts. Dancing was continued until 11.30, when all left the hall in merry mood. Music was generously and splendidly rendered by Miss E. Fitness. Miss M. Woods and Mr G. Fitness.
