FRANKLIN COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The following is a continuation of the report of the above meeting.— A Paparata Valley Request. Mr E. A. Wilkins, Paparata Valley, drew the Council’s attention to the state of the main drain at Paparata Valley. At present it was silted up and the flow of the water was thus prevented. He urged it be cleaned out before the winter, —Engineer to attend to it. Papakura Gomplaiint. Mr H Houghton, Papakura, urged the Council to compel the offender to remove blackberry, gorse, bottles and old iron from road abutting on Council’s reserve leased by Mr L. Wiiford. —•Left to Cr Lowry and engineer to look into. Access Road. Messrs T. Peacock. Arbuckle Bros., C. F. Leatham, and J. R. Donovan, ratepayers of Polceno, urged that an access road- be constructed to their properties. —Engineer to inspect to see what was required. Happy Valley Roads Messrs Bradstreet and Wilkins, of Happy Valley, waited on the Council with a request that the road leading to their properties tit Happy Valley be attended to before he winter months set in. They pointed out hat the road was impassable in the winter. They could not get to or from their properties. The chairman advised them to take the necessary steps to define a rating area with a view of raising a loan to metal the roads in the district. This they decided to do. The engineer was instructed to see what could be done to assist the settlers during the coming winter. Ponga Road. A deputation of ratepayers from Ponga urged that the Ponga road be reecnstrdeted as soon as possible. It was at present in a very badi 4 condition. The water tables being blocked caused the water to run down the road and thus wash away the metal. It was pointed out that there was a, free Government grant of £250 for the road, also a grant of £SO on a £ for £ basis.

The engineer agreed to lay the work out and as soon as the plans were appi*oved the work is to be proceeded .with. An Awhitu Road. Mr H. R- Morrison and several others' drew the attention of the Council to the state of the road leading to their properties at Awhitu. It needed urgent attention.* —Left to Cr Mellsop and engineer to deal with. Thai Lost Truck. # Cr Mellsop reported that the truck which disappeared from the Te Toro wharf some weeks ago was found about five chains away from the wharf in the water. Someone mischievously inclined had evidently Severed the truck over the side of the wharf. Another Engine. The engineer was instructed to make inquiries regarding another traction engine and to report the result of his transaction to the machinery committee, who have power to
