COUNCIL AND CHAMBER.
ALLEGED STRING PULLING. That a bond of friendship docs not exist between the Pukekohe Chamber of Commerce and the Pukekohe Borough Council has for some time been a foregone conclusion, and judging by recent developments the bond of friendship has not yet been cemented. At Wednesday night’s meeting of the Borough Council the Chamber of Commerce requested the Council to remove the electric lighting pole adjacent to the East street bridge, which the Railway Department wanted removed so that it could make the necessary alterations to the bridge. The Chamber would be obliged if the Council would be good enough to attend to the matter so 'that the department may expedite the work. Cr Patterson: What has it got to do with tthe Chamber of Commerce? Cr Morrow: They are going to ran the town. Cr Patterson: ‘“They are not going to run me. I move the letter be returned.” We never asked for the bridge to be altered and moreover we never _asked for 'the pole to be removed. On the motion of the Mayor, it was decided to reply stating ithe matter was under consideration by the Council. Cr Keith: It appears tthe Chamber of Commerce wants the bridge widened and the Council wants r new bridge. They are only pulling the strings. The electrical engineer (Mr W. Wyatt) stated that he had experienced a difficulty in getting a longer pole which was necessary before the present pole was removed,
