TUAKAU TOWN BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Tuakau Town Board was neld on Tuesday last when there were present: Messrs Dynes Fulton (chairman), W. B. J. B. Sim, C. Finch, Geo. S. Lapwood, A. Medland, and. the clerk (Mr A. H. Tapper) Dalgety and Co.’s Request. In view of the state of the road in front of Messrs Dalgety and Co.’s saleyards last winter, the firm requested the Board to take steps to prevent a recurrence during the approaching winter. —The chairman recognised that the portion of the road referred to was in a bad state last winter and needed attention. He pointed out that about 450 yards of metal required to complete the road to the church corner. Mr Sieed the contractor, had nearly completed the George Street work and would be available to do the work very soon. 1 , On the motion of Mr Taylor, the clerk was instructed to reply stating the work would be done as soon as metal was available. Mr Sim seconded. Feeling at Colons’. The chairman reported that since last meeting, he and Mr. Lapwood had arranged to have the filling fenced at Collins’ orchard. They could not obtain rails and had arranged with the engineer to forward them to Tuakau. Scos-sa Order. The clerk was instructed to order two trucks of scoria for blinding purposes. Thanks. The Franklin A. and P. Society thanked the Board for the use of . flags during the Society’s Autumn Show. Peace Celebrations Contribssiion, The clerk of the Raglan County Council forwarded a further sum of £2O towards the cost of the peace celebrations held at Tuakau in December, 1919, making the ltnglan County Council’s contribution up to £45, which represents a donation of £ls from each of the Onewhero, Pukekawa and Port Waikato ridings. Width of Metal Reduced, The chairman reported in connection with the work near Collins to the effect that the contractor expected to have the work completed in about a week’s time provided the weather did not break. He pointed out that owing to the finances and with a view of keeping the cost inside of the allocation, he had taken upon himself to reduce the width of the metal from 18ft to 14ft. On the motion of Mr Sim the chairman's action was endorsed.
A Gift Machine-nun. The clerk reported that a German machine-gun and mountings had arrived from the Minister of Internal Affairs. Health Inspector. The clerk’s action in accepting the Health Department’s offer to provide a district health inspector at £l2 per annum was approved. * Town Hall Site. A petition, signed by 80 ratepayers, requested the Board, before purchasing a site for the proposed town hall, to submit the question of the location of such site to a meeting of ratepayers publicly concerned. The subject was deferred wending the result of the application for a loan of £750 for the purpose of acquiring a suitable site. Access to Church. The foreman was instructed to attend to ihe need for access to the Catholic Church property. Information Wanted. With a view of linking up with some electric power district, the clerk was instructed, on the motion of Messrs Medland and Arrowsmith, to communicate with the Government asking for information on the matter Accounts. Accounts amounting to £326 7s 7d were passed for payment. Not ice of Motion. In accordance with notice of motion given at last meeting, the chairman moved that in future the Board meets at 7 pm. on tthe first Tuesday of the month, instead of 8 p.m. as at present. Carried.
