ARE YOU ENROLLED?

Borough electors are reminded by advertisement that the supplementary roll closes on Wednesday, April 13th, after which there will be no further opportunity / of enrolling in time for the elections on Wednesday, April 27th. Every ratepayer and residential elector should see that his or her name has been placed on the roll. It is very annoying to a ratepayer to discover, at the balolt-box, that he is debarred from voting because he omitted to see that his name had been recorded. Many ratepayers assume that because they are old residents it. is unnecessary for them to carry out the usual formality. This view, however, is a mistaken one, for the responsibility is solely their own, and protests at the! ballot-box are unavailing. Under majority rule, every vote is of importance. One vote may be the deciding factor between a progressive and a retrogressive Council, and therefore it is not wise for any ratepayer to minimise the value of his or her vote. Moreover, a keenly contested election, in which the ratepayers vote heavily, has an excellent tonic effect on a Council and its policy. It is to be hoped, therefore, that electors will not fail to call at the Borough Council offices and make sure that their names appear on the roll, so that the all too frequent cry of civic apathy may not be repeated this year.
