UNPLEASANT FOR DAD.
A popular writer* visited a certain prison in order to take notes for a magazine on gaol life. On returning home he described all he had seen, and his description made a deep impression on the mind of his little daughter.
The writer and his offspring, a week iater, were in a train together, which stopped at a station near a gloomy building. A man asked; “What place is drat?” “The county gaol,” another answered promptly. Whereupon Mary embarrassed hei father, and aroused the suspicions of the other occupants of the carriage by asking in a loud, shrill voice: “Is that the gaol you were in, father?”
