A return prepared for the Minister for Labour shows that during the present year 31 local authorities have adopted Saturday as the weekly halfholiday. These districts include the boroughs of Lower Hutt, Masterton, Carterton, Palmerston North, Blenheim, Te Awamutu Motueka, Whangarei, Cambridge Stratford and Te Aroha. In 1920, fifteen districts adopted the Saturday' half-holiday; in 1919, nine; in 1918, four; in 1917, six; in 1916 one; in 1915 four; and fifteen adopted it prior to 1915. The total is now 85. Of the four chief centres, Auckland and Wellington adopted the Saturday half-holiday before 1915; and Wellington and Dunedin carried it in 1915. Fifteen towns have adopted it and subsequently changed to the Wednesdav or another half-holi-day.
