THE MAYORALTY.
MR. C. K. LAWRIE SEEKING RE-ELECTION. MR. H. G., R. MASON A CANDIDATE MR. R. F. WEBSTER MAY WITHDRAW. I At Wednesday night’s meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr C. K. Lawrie) announced that he intended to contest the Mayoralty at the forthcoming municipal elections. He stated that there were various works to be carried out by the Council, including drainage and electrical constructions. It was up to the present Council to try and carry out the proposed schemes. During their term of office they had done their best in the interests of the ratepayers. He congratulated the Council on the work accomplished, also the staff for the able manner in which they had carried out their duties. He requested the retiring councillors to seek re-election.
Cr. Hamilton congratulated the Mayor and Council on the way in which they had pulled together. Illfeeling was conspicuous by its absence.
We understand that Mr H. G. R. 'Mason, an ex-Mayor, has acceded to a request, to allow himself to be nominated fof- the office and that Mr R. F. Webster will now withdraw from the contest. As far as the Council is concerned nothing of a definite nature has been av.nounced.
