RABBITS AND NOXIOUS WEEDS.

DEPARTMENT TUNING UP. The question of taking steps to eradicate rabbits and noxious weeds was again mentioned at the meeting of the Franklin County Council yesterday. Cr. G. W. Heald suggested urging the Agricultural Department to station a stock inspector at Pukekohe, which he considered a central locality. It appeared to him that officers of the department wasted considerable time travelling to and from Auckland. The chairman said he believed the officers returned to their homes only on week ends. It was for the department to prove tthat it could cope with the matter without an additional inspector, and if it failed in its duty,, then it was for the Council to agitate for another inspector. Cr. Charles said that the inspectors had inspected his riding and had given those concerned three weeks in which to comply with the terms of the Act.. The chairman said that it appeared that the department had been tuned Up.
